This is our prayer: souls refreshed, hearts restored, and callings released.
Stewardship for the kingdom.
A message from founders, Skip and Amy Johnson.
We feel deeply called to steward the 221 acres of the Historic Riverbend Farm—with its mile of stunning Big Fork River frontage, wildflower-covered fields, restored barn, and the presence of God that’s so tangible here. Over the years, this land has become more than a retreat for our family; it’s now a nonprofit ministry with a clear mission: to help people experience the love of their Holy Father and live from their identity as deeply loved sons or daughters of God.
We’ve seen God show up here time and again, and we believe He has set this place apart for kingdom purposes.
With holy anticipation,
Skip & Amy
A time to rebuild.
After losing the historic farmhouse to a fire last September, we’ve been reflecting and dreaming about what this space could be. As we rebuild, we see an opportunity to enhance its purpose: a place where souls are refreshed, hearts are restored, and callings are released.
As we dream and build, we invite others to join in the vision—through partnerships, hosting their own retreats here, or helping fund the next phase, like a commercial kitchen or bunkhouse renovations. Together, we can create a space where hearts are restored, dreams are born, and leaders are sent out, refreshed and ready.
Our next projects include:

-
We’re building a larger farmhouse with the same cozy, timeless farmhouse style. It will feature more bedrooms, a large bunk room, and an improved flow for gathering spaces—perfect for hosting retreats. Picture a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, a big porch for reflection, and quiet spaces to meet with God.
-
Two garages will be transformed into standalone bunkhouses with rustic charm and their own outdoor bathroom, the “LaTREEn”—a tongue-in-cheek nod to its wooded setting.
-
We’re dreaming of upgrades like an expanded septic system, an outdoor kitchen, and a commercial kitchen for catered events, creating a turnkey experience for hosting groups.
Our mission
Now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry, Riverbend Refuge exists to help people step into freedom and gain clarity in their identity. Through the beauty of creation and intentional spaces, we invite people to encounter the love of their Holy Father. Over the years, we’ve hosted Wild at Heart retreats, Captivating weekends, and other events designed to help people recover their hearts and reconnect with their calling. We’ve seen the power of this place awaken souls and create space for God to move.
Looking ahead, we prayerfully believe Riverbend Refuge will:
Serve as a retreat center for ministry leaders and pastors to unplug, recharge, and rediscover joy in their calling.
Host small marriage retreats, leadership gatherings, and events like Becoming a King or Journey of Generosity.
Provide a space for prayer retreats and soul restoration, where individuals and small groups can reconnect with God in the beauty of His creation.
Partner with churches like Substance and organizations like Generous Giving to equip and empower leaders.
Get involved.
